5 HUGE Reasons to Workout at Home
This article is meant to help give people understanding and motivation around the reasons to make sure they are getting their workouts in at home under the current conditions. Even if you are just opposed to going to the gym and you use that as the reason to not focus on your fitness, then this can help you understand why it’s important. Change in Normal Healthy Behavior - Now that we’ve all had to take big steps during these trying times to keep ourselves, family, and the general public safe and healthy, most of our major habits (to include healthy ones) have been disrupted. If you normally go to the gym or play a sport and can no longer do that it is likely that you major source of physical activity is now gone, and you’re having the same physical output on a daily basis that you normally would. Even the lack of ability to complete other normal activities such as shopping or walking up/down stairs during the normal day can have an impact. To avoid gaining unwanted weight, or losing the hard work you’ve already put in, changing up your goals to fit a workout in your home will keep you in the game.
Fill or Supplement Unproductive Time - Most of us are sitting at home trying to stay active, but based on our already developed habits of getting home and relaxing by watching our streaming TV services or scrolling on Facebook or Instagram. This is fine in moderation, but it’s important to fill some of the day with other activities to help keep us feeling healthy. You can even start by just supplementing this unproductive time with a workout while you watch your favorite show. This is an especially great way to stretch or roll out tight muscles. Cut Down on Snacking or Unhealthy Eating - When stuck at home with not a whole lot to do, those snacks in the cupboards start to look pretty good, mostly just to cure the boredom you’re currently feeling. It’s pretty easy to see why this couldn’t be good for our health. This can leave you feeling lethargic and ready to watch more TV and eat more snacks. When you get a workout in to help support your fitness goals you keep those goals in the forefront of your mind and will be more likely to choose not to eat snacks out of boredom.
Snowball of Productivity - One of the great benefits of a workout, especially earlier in the day (much like making your bed when you wake up), is setting into motion a snowballing effect of productivity. When you accomplish something early on and continue to accomplish other small feats throughout the day it’s easier to keep up levels of motivation. It can be a challenge to gain some steam in the day when you start off by watching TV or hanging out on the phone. Even if that is/was the case so far in the day, having a good workout is a great way to jump start that productivity. I know I’m more likely to get stuff done after a strong productive workout.
Keep Yourself and your Loved Ones Sane - When you’re not used to being at home all day every day and you’re also not able to get out your energy in the same ways, it’s easy to get a little wound up. When you’re stuck at home with your family and friends who are also under the same pressures, not to mention stresses of this situation things can sometimes get a little wild or rowdy. Getting that extra energy out with an in-home workout can help keep every one level headed and living in peace and harmony. This can also be a great way to keep your kids from bouncing off the walls while also bonding with this and building long term healthy habits.
